About the Zirngasts and Zirnguests

Your host family

Andrea and Marcel Zirngast are not only passionate hosts, but also true globetrotters. Their travels have taken them around the globe, from Egypt and the Maldives to the Galapagos Islands and South Africa. They collected good ideas everywhere, which you can find in Haus Zirngast today.

They have also traveled a lot professionally. After hotel management school, they worked in the USA, Great Britain, Puerto Rico and the Cayman Islands. But as the saying goes: Home is where the heart is. And that eventually led them back to Austria and in 2008 to their home in Schladming to take over Marcel's parents' business, the cozy hotel with campsite.

The passion of the Zirngasts? The perfect balance of tradition and modern comfort that delights guests from near and far. Whether adventurers at the campsite, solo travelers, couples or families in the hotel - everyone is welcome at Haus Zirngast. The cosmopolitan and homely atmosphere invites all Zirngast guests to enjoy what is really important: to remain curious, to marvel at the little things and to gather unforgettable vacation experiences together. Because: "The best is still the good."

How it all began

History of our hotel with campsite

1965

Marcel's grandfather takes over a campsite in Schladming.

1979

Grandpa becomes dad - or rather parents. Marcel's mother Ulrike and father Sepp take over the business and expand it to include an inn with guest rooms.

2008

Time for the 3rd generation. Marcel and Andrea return to Schladming and take over from Ulrike & Sepp as hosts.

2009

There is growth: 22 new rooms in the extension, the wellness area and the winter garden in the restaurant.

2010

Opening of the then new hotel in December.

2014

The first update - the rooms in the main building are completely renovated.

2020

Zirngast becomes even greener and receives the Austrian Ecolabel.

2024

A new chapter. Now everything changes: renovation of the kitchen, restaurant and reception. A new exterior façade. An apartment is created and 2 Tiny Houses are planned. The new Haus Zirngast is launched.

But things turned out differently than expected: on November 14, our Haus Zirngast was hit by a serious fire and we had to close. We never thought of giving up - instead we asked ourselves: How can we make the good things even better? This gave rise to the idea of building another floor and creating bright premium rooms with lots of light and views.

2025

Opening of our boutique hotel "Haus Zirngast" at the end of November - exactly one year after the serious fire. A new beginning full of light, warmth and genuine Styrian hygge.
